This project required the addition of 15,646 square feet and the renovation of another 34,869 square feet. The main challenge provided by this project was working with the difficult geometries of the existing building and developing g a design program that would integrate itself seamlessly into the existing building while allowing the facility to remain open and operational throughout the construction.
On the athletic potion of the centre, a new gymnasium was added that would accommodate two full sized basketball courts. Additional new programming included: two racquetball courts, full service men’s and women’s locker rooms, and a reception / check-in space. The facilities existing meeting rooms were renovated and enlarged by approximately 40% with new acoustic treatments and the addition of a new catering kitchen. The original budget for this project was $3,600,000 and, excluding change orders that provided for additional scope and programming, came within 1% of the original budget.
